Welcome to Danny’s Sponsons...

I have reworked my designs, with the major change coming in the form of material that I use (aluminum to plastic)...With the change from Aluminum to Plastic, let me point out a few reasons why I made the change…and why it is more beneficial.

- Constructed of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW), the same material used by current and previous manufactures of sponsons…If it works, why change it?
- Plastic has allowed me to construct a more efficient sponson, which flows with the contours of the hull better than aluminum…
- Plastic is more flexible, giving way to objects without hurting the PWC’s hull…
- Plastic is lighter than an aluminum unit of the same size, by more than 2/3 the weight…
- Quicker construction time due to its ease to work with…
- Safety…Construction of Aluminum units was far more dangerous for me. Plastic allows me to maintain safety while keeping my tolerances closer…

Material used is Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW), and is constructed so they are THICK and HEAVY DUTY. The thinnest any unit is at any point is 0.5 inches (1/2) in thickness, with some models swelling up to 1.5 inches thick. Many failures of other brands have come from over tightening of bolts, which causes stress fractures in thin material…With an average thickness of 0.75-1.0 on all backing plates, they are tough!

The backing plates are all constructed with the needed 5 degree of camber on the mounting surface, allowing the sponson blades to be perfectly parallel to each other. This allows for a more balanced, precise, and predictable response when making turns or going through chop…All mounting points are counter sunk, with threaded inserts for mounting of the blades.

The blades themselves are 0.5 inches thick all the way around. They are not angle cut at all to allow for the camber, which as stated above, are built INTO the backing plates…This means that BOTH blades are identical, for identical response. They can be mounted on EITHER side of the ski, in up to 12 positions…

All sponsons made follow current IJSBA specifications for sponsons...Such as overall length, amount of blade exposed to water, thickness of blade and its edges, etc...

With that said, I will be building more items to accommodate more models…so please check back.

Meanwhile, listed below are what I currently have available. Each unit comes complete with all mounting hardware and instructinos on installation. Basic hand tools are needed to install. Click on the pics for a more detail image...
